South Omo has a reputation for being a little commercial, and zoo-like ( but for people). Spending time at the market in Turmi didnt feel like that at all. Yes, you politely ask if you can take a picture ( and sometimes vice versa) and an immediate 5birr / 10birr (R2.50-R5) is negotiated. Occasionally some giggling occurs. Turmi, which is a Hamer town, has market every monday. The market is not put on for tourists – there were 4 in town. The market has a small curios section ( basically many of the same things for sale in the market, but with extra beads). Post market meetings, hookups, chats drinks etc looked fun and inviting.,,
So Matth; Ethiopia just been voted ‘world’s best destination’ by the European Council on Tourism and Trade. How about that!
